THE OBJECTIVE OF THE ROQUE SANTA CRUZ FOUNDATION
The general goal of the Roque Santa Cruz Foundation is to help children to have a good future, in particularly underprivileged and/or street children, starting in Asuncion, Paraguay.
OUR ACTIVITIES ARE AIMED AT THREE IMPORTANT CORNERSTONES:
1ONE MEAL A DAY
It is difficult for us to imagine but thousands and thousands of children do not have food every day. To do something to alleviate this need, the Roque Santa Cruz Foundation supports the ‘Just a daily meal’ project in Asuncion which was initiated by the church. A large group of volunteers, including Roque's mother, are doing everything to ensure that a large group of needing children in Asuncion get a good meal every day.
Giving children food every day satisfies the foremost basic requirement of course. But if you really want to help, it is better to give a fishing rod rather than a fish. Therefore a good education is one of the first requirements in giving children the chance of a better future. A start was made by adopting a school, which is named after Roque's late brother Oscar. The objective is of course to adopt more schools or eventually found own schools to implement the so called Oscar Santa Cruz Educational Programme, that is currently been developed. Its point of departure is that the children are supported and supervised until their education is finished, possibly at the best universities in Europe and the US.
“Exercise makes you happy and healthy”. This slogan is a popular summary of the ‘Roque Santa Cruz Fun Football’ programme. Children sit at the computer and play games for 3 to 4 hours a day in the western world and get much too little exercise, which results more and more inobesity, diabetes, joint complaints and early cardio-vascular illnesses; statisticians are sounding alarm bells about public health and the disastrous consequences. The Roque Santa Cruz Foundation wants to try to help children get moving with the `Roque Santa Cruz Fun Football` programme, by offering material, helping to create safe playing areas, holding clinics and support or initiate football related events.
